This is my newest design Flotsam & Jetsam on Patternbank. The Patternmash briefing of last month was to get inspired by flotsam and jetsam. I love a little extra practise and was for this design inspired by the natural form of seaweed and colourful sea glass.
Colour is essential, it can make or break your design. Therefore I would like to show you how some designs and their color schemes evolve. After I have finished a design I normally take a lot of time to re-colour and end up with at least two color schemes for a design. This is also great fun! I’ll walk you through a part of the colouring process for this design. First of all, the final design:
With the Patternmash briefing a color scheme is provided, and in the first colouring attempt I used all of those colours:
Since I naturally go for a more limited color scheme, because I personally find it more pleasing to the eye, I came up with this design next, using only three shades of green:
Then I sort of missed the boldness in the design, so I added blue:
I was looking for even more boldness, so I added black and white:
And this made me happy! So the final design has gone through a colour altering process and I ended up with two colour scheme in green and blue.
The design is now available on Patternbank and could be used for numerous purposes as shown on the product mock-ups below:
